It is great to have the rain, but as you can see, it can put us out of business temporarily as well (two weeks ago). Not this Saturday, as we will get there before the threat, and get the harvest in the barn so to speak. Only problem I see, is we will be bringing it our of the barn under forecast rainy conditions, and that means we hope you will wear your rain coat, and come to visit the farmers market Saturday.
The broccoli and cauliflower are at their prime, plenty of purple cauliflower and romanesco as well, and a few leafy greens. Apples from storage are still plentiful, and citrus is down significantly. This is a big broccoli & cauliflower time!
Hopefully next week at this time we will have completed our new plantings of peaches and cherries. Land preparation has been made much more simple by hiring our gracious neighbors, Chris Vandborg, and his brother Mark, who have lent equipment, and manpower (custom hire work) near Lamont, and Enrique Martinez with Don Valpredo Farms in the Mettler area, who have taken care of my major soil machinery needs every time I have needed major work. I just don't have the horsepower as they are much better equipped! Good neighbors ( and paying those bills) are great! Keeping it going will be much easier by all of the City of Bakersfield ag-blend green-waste compost spread by Jeff Smith & Co., CMS Spreaders. Hopefully when we get our canal water back on in Lamont, before mid March, and those trees will think that they are the equivalent of at the beach with unlimited refreshments, and bask in the sun and grow. We really appreciate the Kern Delta and Arvin-Edison water districts wh
ich help to make your eating of our produce possible. Without surface water, there would be no Tesch Family Farms. Please let that last sentence sink in and rest for a while.
We appreciate your friendship and business, and hope to see you eating your cruciferous veggies this week.
